Problem Description:
Re-installation of Solaris 8 10/00 onto a Netra X1 Server system
requires loading additional Netra X1 drivers available only by download.
Failure to install these drivers will prevent the Netra X1 from booting
and cause the installation to fail.

In order to successfully install Solaris 8 10/00 onto the Netra X1
from a network install server, it is first necessary to patch the
standard Solaris image. This process is well documented in the
Netra X1 Server Product Notes (806-6137-10). If this procedure is not
followed, the OS will not be installable over the network.
Here is a error message when the drivers were not installed:

Rebooting with command: boot net - install
Boot device: /pci@1f,0/ethernet@c File and args: - install

   Can't load the root filesystem
   Type 'go' to resume

This FIN explains where to obtain the documentation to perform a
re-installation of Solaris 8 10/00 on the Netra X1 platform. The Netra X1
server is shipped with Solaris 8 10/00 pre-installed . This system does not
contain a CD-ROM drive. Therefore, re-installation of the OS must be done
using a network install server.

The Netra X1 is being sold and deployed in WinTel environments so it
is important that this special procedure to re-install Solaris 8 10/00
is fully documented and understood by Sun support engineers.
Implementation:
---
     | | MANDATORY (Fully Pro-Active)
      ---

      ---
     | | CONTROLLED PRO-ACTIVE (per Sun Geo Plan)
      ---

      ---
     | X | REACTIVE (As Required)
      ---
Corrective Action:
The following recommendation is provided as a guideline for authorized
Enterprise Services Field Representatives who may encounter the above
mentioned problem.

The Solaris 8 re-installation procedure is detailed in the Netra X1 Server
Product Notes (806-6137-10) and the Solaris 8 Advanced Installation Guide
(806-0957-10) supplied with the Solaris 8 10/00 CD's.

However, there are some additional software drivers that are specific to
the Netra X1 Server which must be downloaded from http://www.sun.com/netra .
The drivers can be found in the software downloads section, "Netra X1 Software
Drivers". Please refer to Page 10 of the Netra X1 Server Product Notes
for details about installing the drivers.

NOTE: The instructions in these Netra X1 Product Notes were written subsequent
to the instructions in the Netra X1 Server User's Guide
(806-5980-10). They supersede the note in Chapter Six of the
User Guide which states that if re-installing Solaris, then
you must install the LOM software from the Solaris supplementary CD.
Note that, when you follow the instructions in these Product Notes,
you do not need to re-install the LOM software from the Solaris
supplementary CD. The LOM software for the Netra X1 Server is included
with the software updates which you download from
      http://www.sun.com/netra .
Comments:
The Netra X1 ships from the factory with the OS and patches
pre-installed. This FIN process is being released as additional
visibility to the Release Notes that are supplied with every Netra X1.
It is only necessary when you are re-installing Solaris 8 10/00.

Implementation Footnote:
i) In case of MANDATORY FINs, Enterprise Services will attempt to
contact all affected customers to recommend implementation of
the FIN.

ii) For CONTROLLED PROACTIVE FINs, Enterprise Services mission critical
support teams will recommend implementation of the FIN (to their
respective accounts), at the convenience of the customer.

iii) For REACTIVE FINs, Enterprise Services will implement the FIN as the
need arises.
