Windows 3.X support

Support for Windows 3.X has been dropped in this release.

Windows 95, 98 or NT 4.0

Please note that when using Windows 95/8 or NT that you must have the TCP/IP protocol stack installed. This is needed by the pseudo proxy server used by the viewer software to translate URLs into local files on the CD.

Windows 2000

This CD has not been tested to work on Windows 2000, me etc.

Accessing Off-CD Links

When running the Sun System Handbook CD-ROM on Solaris, you may get an error message about Netscape not being able to find any of the off-CD URLs to infoserver.sun.com . We launch our own version of Netscape for browsing the CD, so it is not configured with the proper information.  You must go into the Edit>Preferences>Mail & Newsgroups>Identity dialog to set your email identity and you must go into Edit>Preferences>Advanced>Proxies to set your proxies.

Also, be aware that some of the off-CD links go to restricted access systems that you may not have the ability to access. To access infoserver.sun.com, you need the proper service provider contract with Sun Enterprise Services.

Adobe Acrobat

When viewing PDF documents on a Windows or NT system, you may get an error message after viewing nine files. The error message will say, "The maximum number of files are already open. No other files can be opened or printed until some are closed." To work around this problem, find the Acrobat Reader program icon on the task bar and kill it. You will then be able to view PDF files again until you hit the nine file limit.
