The SunShack Data Collection

Welcome to my Sun Microsystems data collection. This archive is always under construction, and any contributions of data or information for this archive are most welcome. Remember to unpoison the email address to remove the anti-spam feature.

Most of the data and information available from here has been collected by me, and is the sort of material that you won't find elsewhere without access to internal Sun publications such as Field Engineer and System Handbooks, etc. (which are now archived and online here!)... Sun probably doesn't feel it warrants public availability, but I do!

Important News

Sun have in the recent past tried to make me remove the System Handbook document collections from this archive! Go to the legal jumble page to read about this.

There is nothing in the System Handbook collections which relates to trade-secrets or is 'commercial-in-confidence', so what is the problem with putting the information in a place where it benefits everyone? If the Handbooks really are confidential and contain secrets Sun doesn't want anyone to discover, why is much of the material accessible for free from the public areas of SunSolve?

The SunShack is an independent, public domain website located in Sydney, Australia and has absolutely no connection with Sun Microsystems Inc. in the USA, or with Sun Microsystems here in Australia. All information is provided here entirely free of charge with no warranty or guarantee of any kind. Please read and familiarise yourself with our full legal statement if you're unsure of your rights and responsibilities before using any of the information presented here.

Some of the archived data files (not the HTML documents though) are located on my FTP server machine called Treefern (which you can access directly if you wish).

You should read and be aware of the Treefern Conditions of Use for complete information about accessing any of the files available from the FTP server. Take note that your web and/or ftp client application(s) may require some minor configuration changes to correct some oversights in the standard settings.

Please do not send me email if you have not checked the Treefern Conditions of Use document first.
